Sheridan graduates scoop up 2026 Canadian Screen Awards

A blue graphic congratulating Canadian Screen Award winners, accompanied by a golden trophySheridan College graduates once again scooped up some of the top honours at the Canadian Screen Awards, recognizing their contributions to powerful storytelling in film, television and digital productions.

In total, 13 Sheridan alumni won Canadian Screen Awards (CSA) in 10 categories during a series of ceremonies during Canadian Screen Week, May 27-31.

Alumni received nearly 70 CSA nominations this year, building on Sheridan’s long history of success at the CSAs and other top awards competitions including the Oscars and Emmys.

“We’re incredibly proud to see our alumni recognized in so many categories at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards,” says Mark Jones, Dean of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “Their talent and vision continue to drive innovation that brings powerful Canadian stories to life, all while shaping the future of our national screen industries.”

The winning Sheridan alumni are:

  • In the category of Achievement in Casting, Stephanie Gorin (Music Theatre ’81) won for her work on 40 Acres.
  • Christopher Shewchuk (Bachelor of Film and Television ’20), Luca Tarantini (Advanced Television and Film ’14) and Mike Stadnyckyj (Media Arts ’08) won Achievement in Visual Effects for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie.
  • Daniel Birnbaum (Music Theatre Performance ’09) won for Best Lifestyle Program or Series for Drag Brunch Save My Life.
  • Alethea Arnaquq-Baril (Illustration ’05) won Best Writing, Comedy, for her work on North of North.
  • In the category of Best Writing, Animation, Desmond Sargeant (Media Arts ’06) won for Xavier Riddle & the Museum.
  • Gayle Ye’s (Media Arts ’14) work on Late Bloomer won Best Photography, Comedy.
  • In the category of Best Picture Editing, Factual, Ryan Monteith (Media Arts ’00) won for 50,000 First Dates: A True Story.
  • Andrew G. MacPherson (Advanced Television and Film ’06) won Best Original Music, Factual, Lifestyle, Reality, or Entertainment for his work on Dark Side of the Ring.
  • For Best Sports Feature Segment, Matthew Dorman (Media Arts ’08) and Sean Dunnam (Media Arts ’03) won for Man of the City.
  • For her work on Cows Come Home,  Lindsey Middleton (Theatre and Drama Studies ’13) won for Best Web Program or Series, Fiction.

Sheridan’s Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design is the top animation school in Canada, responding to the needs of creative industries, and supporting student innovation and success. Most recently, it launched Canada’s first master’s in animation, games, and immersive experiences. Last year, Sheridan was named as an Apple Distinguished School, launched the Honours Bachelor of 3D Animation and Emerging Technologies (3DAET), and unveiled Nova, an interdisciplinary initiative that is exploring changes in creative industries.
