
For second consecutive year, 21 Sheridan graduates win Canadian Screen Awards
Sheridan graduates continue to achieve excellence within the Canadian media landscape, taking home, for the second consecutive year, 21 Canadian Screen Awards (CSA).
The awards, which celebrate and recognize the artistic and technical merit within Canadian film, television and digital media productions, were presented in a series of ceremonies from May 30-June 1st. The main gala concluded these presentations and was broadcast live on both CBC Television and CBC Gem.
The Sheridan alumni awarded are all graduates of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. They have won the prestigious CSA for their talented work across multiple genres, from dramatic acting and children’s programming to sports broadcasting and reality television.
“We are proud to see so many of our alumni yet again recognized with CSAs,” says Mark Jones, Dean of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “Every year these awards illustrate how Sheridan graduates continue to be among the top talent in Canadian media. Through their outstanding work, they forge a path forward for future generations to follow.”
Alumni received 79 nominations this year, setting a record for the highest number of nominations they have earned since the first CSAs were awarded in 2013. The winning Sheridan alumni are:
- For the second year in a row, Matthew Dorman (Media Arts ’08) won Best Sports Feature Segment, this time for his work in the TSN original series Just Us.
- Supinder Wraich (Advanced Television and Film, ‘09) won Best Lead Performer, Drama Series for the series Allegiance.
- Tim Muirhead (Media Arts '98), Kyle Peters (Media Arts '08), Katie Pagacz (Bachelor of Film and Television '22), Patton Rodrigues (Media Arts '12) and Madelyn Southward (Bachelor of Film and Television ‘22) all received wins for Best Sound, Animation for work on PAW Patrol.
- Also recognized for work on Paw Patrol was Toni Stevens (Media Arts ’85), who won in the category of Best Pre-School Program or Series.
- Gayle Ye (Media Arts ‘14) won for Best Photography, Comedy for the episode Nudes in the series Late Bloomer.
- For Best Visual Effects, Ken Nielsen (Graphic Design ‘89) won for work on Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.
- Rob Warchol (Media Arts, ’90) won Best Sound, Fiction for the series Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.
- In the category of Best Web Program or Series, Non-Fiction, Lucius Dechausay (Advanced Television and Film, ’03) won for work on Here and Queer.
- Shelley Therrien (Advanced Television and Film, ’11) won for Best Picture Editing, Children’s or Youth with Geek Girl.
- Jeff Perry (Advanced Television and Film, ’06), Alexandra Mastronardi (Film & Television, ’10), Wesley Finucan (Advanced Television and Film, ’04), Keith Ross (Media Arts, ’06), Holly Benson (Advanced Television and Film, ’19), Ellora Dela Fuente (Advanced Film and Television, ‘17) and Alex Marsolais-Whicher (Media Arts, ’14) won Best Picture Editing, Reality/Competition for their collective work on Big Brother Canada.
- Best Direction, Animation went to Mélanie Daigle (Bachelor of Animation, ’10) for Camp Snoopy - Sally's Tooth.
